Actor. Born on August 18, 1969, in New York City, New York. Sly, confident young lead of Hollywood films. The son of stage actor Michael Hawkins and movie casting director Mary Jo Slater (Vice President of talent at MGM), he began his career at age seven in the TV soap opera One Life to Live and later performed with a touring company of The Music Man.
He entered films in the mid-80s, establishing a presence as the crazed teen obsessed with Winona Ryder in the pitch-black comedy Heathers (1989). Slater's offbeat, shady delivery reminded many of a young Jack Nicholson, and his sex appeal made him a popular--if not always bankable--leading man.
